The Aerogarden CFLs also used to mention that they needed to be changed once and awhile, despite still lighting up. They dim over a period of time. LEDs should solve that issue as well.

Corinne, they publish 3-5 years on the LED life.  When I talked to customer service, they said they were underselling the life, and that they should last 8 years or more.  Warranty remains at one year, however.  I think all of that matches with my own personal experience with LEDs.  Only time will tell.  They told me that the electronics are the same in both hoods, so there is no more risk of the LED hood itself dying, than there is of the CFL model dying.

I should also note, that I only had them sitting side by side for the picture.  Now that they are planted, they are apart, but in the same environment.  They do not get any natural lighting where they are sitting, and don't get any light from each other, or significantly from any other source.

I also am looking forward to following AND ENJOYING  this first project in the
LED.
Question: that light unit...how long is the LED panel predicted to last?
I know there was discussion about the panel, but did
the company have anything to say about replacement /panel change time estimation?

CFL Ultra vs. LED Ultra

Both planted tonight with Braveheart lettuce.  I have not tried Braveheart in an AG yet, so that is a bit of a variable itself, but let's see what they do.

The LED unit is not brighter than the CFL model, but it is noticeably different color, and it is equal brightness across the whole garden, rather than having hot spots.
